Spotify has been at war with Apple for years. In 2015, Spotify lobbied the US Congress to protect its music business from Apple[0], despite Apple paying musicians three times what Spotify does[1]. Spotify has been clear that they find Apple's 30% cut to be outrageous, and also that they find Apple's reduction to 15% for small developers to be outrageous[2].
Spotify co-founded The Coalition for App Fairness[3] in 2018, a coalition working to generate PR and regulatory support for limiting what features platforms can introduce and how they can monetize (and limit monetization).
So yeah, Spotify is at war with Apple, and has been for a long time. This isn't a new development. And IMO Spotify has a lot of good points and valid complaints, but it's very hard to root for such a skeezy company[4].
I am personally hoping there's a way they can both lose this war.
