What I'm most excited about is PoE++ (802.3bt) which can currently push 60watts at 48V DC to each device over ethernet lines. This means that I can run cat6 cable throughout my house and have power and data outlets in a simple ethernet outlet. I can now have a 48V rack mount battery bank, charged by solar, running all of my lighting and charging laptops, security cameras and what not.
There are even PoE++ to usb-c adapters entering the market that do full 5/9/12/20v power delivery.
