What I was afraid of has now come to pass. People are too divided to even reach out and talk. Is there any hope that sanity will return to Politics in the States?

Personally, I no longer respect the man.

Based on the common sentiments expressed on this site, it's not clear that his endorsement is a net positive for the GOP.
That came to pass a long, long time ago. The last time we elected a President with whom the opposite party could "agree to disagree" was George H. W. Bush in 1988.

Since then, each party has considered the other's Presidents a travesty, not worth a shred of respect and whose agenda must be stopped at all costs -- with the brief exception in 2001 under George W. Bush.

I don't intend this as both-sides-ism. I certainly blame one party far more than the other. But in terms of what "has now come to pass", it came to pass in the early 90s, whoever you blame for it.

You are perfectly correct, the late 80s were the high points. I really enjoyed Biden's speech tonight in which he remarked it would be fun watching Trump and DeSantis tear each other apart if they both decide to run.
I don't get how one who is interested in the continuity of humanity would willingly vote for the "any election we don't win is fraudulent" party.

I disagree with the democrats on many things, but to vote for the republicans at this stage is to vote for the US to turn into China -- a country ruled by a strongman who answers to no one.

When Trump was elected, it was the Democrats saying that the election was fraudulent. They repeated this message over and over and over on television, in personal appearances, etc. Shall we go to archive.org and dig up the archived video?
It was already the case when Bush Jr was elected.
Oh, absolutely, but the further back you look the harder it will be to find the actual recordings. My point is only that it is revisionist to call the Republicans the “"any election we don't win is fraudulent" party”, when both parties have indulged in that fantasy over and over.

Honestly, it’s best to assume that both parties are cheating as hard as they possibly can. Certainly low–level frauds are found out in every election.

It’s about relatives. The amount done for Trump in 2016 is no where close to 2020. It’s not even remotely close.
I’m sure we can defer to your superior counting skills.
Yeah big stuff like google trends, headline counts, and various other possible statistics. Of course it’s not just my opinion.

Ah the whattaboutism rears its head. Trump is the first candidate to refuse to concede a loss in a presidential election, even announcing before the election that he would refuse to accept a loss. Clinton conceded to him even though she was ahead by more then 3 million votes. There always were election deniers, just never a sitting president willing to push his supporters to attack congress because he didn’t want to concede and then cowardly abandon them once they failed overturning the certification.

You could also count Stacy Abrams although considering her opponent was in charge of the electoral process her reluctance to concede could be a bit more understandable.
