I somehow have optimism that over time, the US and world will emerge from our current dark days of poorly designed technology and lackluster education regarding information credibility.

We won't get there with only hope, prayer, talk, or moonshots. It will be a grind.

USG generally and State specially have a long track record of intentionally releasing disinformation. Any solution to disinformation must start with internal reforms rather than the focus on foreign powers the article suggests.
Why ‘must’ it?
Why would anybody trust the government to "disarm disinformation" when they have historically been the largest purveyors of it?

Maybe if they lead by example, but until then...nope.

All governments lie. The question is, whose lies are worse?
