7,999,993,869 and counting...
Opened the page just as it hit 8 billion :-)
Makes you wonder how many people died while I was scrolling down. Or was born. It would be more intense to look at while the newborns and dying people blink on that page.
If you scroll fast, only two icons would blink
thats a lot of blue bloods, I didnt make it to scroll down to us red blooded people.
If you tap it it becomes colour coded. Your wish is granted.
Wow, 8bn icons on a webpage and it doesn't lag. Is this normal?
It's a tiled image.

Still impressive rendering 2,004,000,000,000 pixels, but we see the efforts of clipping reducing that dramatically.

Yes. It's one background image, tiled 8 billion times, but you never see more than a screen of tiles at a time. Virtual scrolling is fast.

Awesome! Just by coincidence, I happened to visit that page at the exact point in time when the counter switched from 7,999,999,999 to 8,000,000,000. Epic!
Damn, I visited when it was at like 7,999,998,000 and thought I could catch the switch as well, but I missed it.
Is this something to be celebrated?
If your concern is some sort of collapse because we’ve hit some mystic 8 billion im afraid the number of people on Earth won’t be the tipping point of any societal collapse

The planet can support our populations easily, but it can’t support our populations at the rate of resource extraction we are undertaking. Not for long anyways. Maybe your questioning is better served directed in there.

Either women are giving birth with metronomic precision and cooperation, or the regularity is a coding simplification. It would be fun to randomize the increments to give the illusion of a God's Eye view of humanity.
