India always have been a huge market for slightly old models; which are more affordable. Anyone who wants an iPhone can't afford the latest because of the price tag.
There's a pretty simple solution there. USB-IF could just specify a waterproof connector. They could even make a waterproof housing that could slip over an existing USB-C.
