Marco Arment who was the cofounder of Tumblr, wrote and supported Instapaper by himself before he sold it and now is the developer of the excellent OverCast podcast player for iOS had a similar question. Why does it take so many people to write a podcast player when there are not any noticeable differences in features between his - that he writes by himself - and theirs?
