Well, the investors in Tesla haven't been complaining, whether or not the mode has been necessary. Those who have worked there can comment on the pro/con.
There's a chasm of difference between a startup and a 15-year-old company with a well-established product.
Not that I ever support Elon's approach to running a business, but just because it worked for brand new companies, doesn't mean it'll work for Twitter. I think that's the main thing he misunderstands.
