The number of billboards I've seen worldwide stuck on either a BSOD or an upgrade message (with a windows cursor for added points) is high. These are commodity devices these days. Multi-screen edge-to-edge displays in sports stadia, Airport displays, you-name-it. They're all capable of being either a linux or a windows machine behind the scenes.
The biggest one was a display close to the Birds Nest stadium in Beijing, atop a very high building. At least 4 stories high, showing "licence expired" text, for the itty bitty bit of a VGA screen this billboard represented. Splashed across Inner-North Beijing.
Now imagine if that one had been hacked for PornHub..
