Reading the article he’s luring republicans into a fight with Apple, not the other way around.

Fighting Apple over "freedom of speech" would be a huge loss for Republicans. Apple has the moral high ground. It could tag Republicans as giving support for child molesting, human trafficking, and all the other horrible ways unrestricted speech can harm innocent people. This would be horribly damaging to the entire Republican Party. If the Republicans seek to avoid the "freedom of speech" issue, Apple could smear them with it anyway.
