Ask HN: Using GoDaddy's domain broker service for expired domains?
There's a domain I'm interested in that appears to have already expired; its WHOIS information lists its status as `clientRenewProhibited`. Though the actual expiration is in a couple months, considering it was registered through GoDaddy, I have a feeling they will simply renew the domain themselves and then squat on it. When I go to register it now, GoDaddy claims it's taken, but they can use the "domain broker service" to help negotiate for it. Since the actual owner isn't in control anymore, I find this to be suspect.
Does anyone have experience using the GoDaddy Domain Broker Service successfully? Bonus points if you're using it on a domain that has already or is about to expire.

[ 5.6 ms ] story [ 81.4 ms ] threadHave you tried using a different registrar to attempt to register the domain?
Both times the expired domains were not registered with them.
The interface is antquated and hard to figure out/use.
Also they're expensive.
I guess it worked for me b/c these domain names weren't super popular. But both were good sounding relatively short .com domains.
