> [Snowden] would not be subject to the partial military mobilization that Putin had decreed days before, since only men with previous military experience were being called up.
Does experience in foreign armies count? He was in the U.S. Army, but left after six months after breaking his legs during training.
The part you are citing is obvious lie anyway, plenty of mobiks have zero prior military training. ru were grabbing people off the street, schools, setup ambushes in apartment building lobbies, its all on video.
I don't know if one comment counts as 'turning', but, a-propos of nothing, any authoritarian moment involves the reevaluation of previous dissident heroes
Snowden crossed the line in what he released. US spying on China. How did that help him reveal the domestic spying problem? It didn’t, and wasn’t required. Many other disclosures were similarly not required, and questionable of a “patriot”. Instead, a foreign agent, revealing international spying, and trying to save his skin by also revealing domestic spying, matches Snowden’s actions. Get to be a Russian agent, and a celebrity. Best of both worlds. F him.
If it only revealed the domestic spying, I might praise him.
And my attitude has not changed since Snowden’s first disclosure.

What he revealed brought about significant positive reforms in the US, both in the public and private sectors

He wouldn't have to do this if crimes he uncovered were properly prosecuted and punished.
