Ask HN: Did ChatGPT just stop telling stories?

Yesterday ChatGPT would tell funny and entertaining stories when prompted. Now it just says “As an AI model I can’t generate original content or stories.”

Is this just me? I was trying to push its limits and maybe the model stopped playing along.

Edit: it started again. Weird.

Makes me think, how are you supposed to use this or any similar closed Saas model to build anything if it's possible for the vendor to randomly change it? If you're building a chatbot or a image generation tool or whatever on top of one of these, you've got to have some strong assumptions about how it will continue to behave.

I have a feeling they had to stop it from doing some more intensive things when it went viral. Whenever they decide to commercialize it, hopefully it will do anything you ask it again.

I’d probably pay $5-10 a month for it already, now that I’ve had a taste.
