Is there a way to put our DVD collections on Amazon S3 and stream them?

Hey HN,

Like you, I've got a big movie collection that I've paid for, but my movies are stuck on DVD. So using DVD decrypter I've put them on my hard drive but each one's like 7 GB. I want to make MY movies watchable from anywhere so I don't have to carry DVDs or an external hard drive to a friends house.

Throwing aside the legalities, I want to convert all my DVDs into streamable video, store them on a private Amazon S3 bucket, and using a password protected player on my server, watch them from anywhere.

I couldn't find any tutorials on using S3 as a home media server, maybe I suck at Googling.

Do you guys know of a way to do this elegantly? We should get together and make a site with tutorials on how.
