I have discussed what I think are the primary reasons in this story and criticized some other theories I often see such as Mongols stopping industrialization or China not being capitalist enough.

did they came up with the gunpowder because they were capitalist enough but Europeans not?

Fusion energy R&D is mostly funded by governments, is it because the world is not capitalist enough?

the semiconductor industry is dominated by Asia, does that mean that EU/NA is not capitalist enough?

saying something "isn't capitalist enough" is disrespecting the people who actually dedicate their life to research

Disappointing. Does not mention any of the extensive literature on the subject of innovation in pre-twentieth-century China.
