I found it to be a fun feature: As a student riding the electric trolley busses in Vancouver in the 90's, I would put my walkman on AM radio and tune it as low as it could go and listen to the EM noises of the bus: The traction and air compressor motors as well as the turn signals...and those of the busses that passed by.
I think consumers should be more worried about this. AM radio would still be a useful way to get information out during a major emergency. The US Government provides AM stations with special generators and transmitters that have been rad-hardened. Until a better solution for emergency communication is here, we need to maintain AM radio.
