Ask HN: Gmail Alternatives?

Over the last few months, the spam filtering on GMail has gotten markedly worse for me, up to an 80% daily false positive rate. I've been aggressively reporting all of the spam that hits my inbox, but the detection rate has yet to improve, and now I'm considering alternatives. Curious to hear which other providers folks have used and what your experiences have been like. Thanks in advance!

icymi...there's actually a search box in the footer. Yeah, it took me a bit to see it as well.

Fastmail. And no, freedom isn't free.

Fastmail has been outstanding for me. I also have a proton account but don't use that, so can't comment on it.

Agreed. Switched a year ago from Gmail to fastmail, works great.

I use a free proton account as safety net for my secondary account and domain names. No complaint there either. I would have gone with proton if they had a better family oriented pricing model.

Just switched to Fastmail as a hedge against Google locking my account etc.

As the name implies, its web interface and phone apps are responsive; more so than Proton.
