It's understandable to have that initial reaction, but if we remove emotion from it we have to at least acknowledge that Fauci did in fact lie to the public on more than one occasion.
Rather than arguing about whether or not these "noble lies" were justified, we're better off discussing how public health officials can regain the trust of the public since we may very well need it soon.
He's never been more defensive than when he had to respond to the GoF allegations in congressional testimony. The strong emotion & prevarication indicates to me that he's lying.
The emails early on that reveal he directed people to censor any credentialed experts that diverged from the "official" narrative is direct evidence he's completely untrustworthy.
He's sanctimonious, and very openly admitted to lying to the public.
How was he lying to the public? He said this in 2020 when the R0 (spread factor) for the original strain of Covid was around 2. The most recent strain of COVID, omicron, has a R0 of around 19. The calculation for herd immunity is based on the R0 value of the strain in question. With a R0 of 20 you have to get to like 95%+ to get herd immunity.
