Ask HN: Why can’t I get off of this group text?

Someone included me on a group text message, and this thing has been going for months. I have zero interest in it, but I can’t get off of it. Some basic googling says it’s because I’m on iPhone and others are on android. How is this possible? Are there any tricks to getting myself removed?

Presumably this is like asking "why can't I get off this email chain where everyone keeps replying all."

Unless your client (iMessage I guess) offers you some kind of muting or blocking function, you can't stop people from sending you messages if they have your phone number.
