So on amazon in the US this thing is $380. Im sorry but for $380 I expect a little better than a dual core and 2GB of memory
I can get an Asus ax-86u for $250 with a quad core (but only 1GB of memory-an advantage for the omnia i admit) and flash Asus-merlin and save $130. Or i can go to aliexpress and pick up a SBC with a celeron and 4 intel 2.5 gb nics, purchase my own RAM/wifi card, and install open-wrt myself and still save about $100.
If you have any interest in running an open-wrt router you are most likely more than able to build one for yourself and save quite a bit of money
Trick is that this is not DIY, but fully functional and supported product. Featuring more user friendly interface with OpenWrt underneath out of the box. Also supporting automatic updates with migration path between big releases. Started with kernel 4.4 and 15.05 OpenWrt, but supporting migration to current state of kernel 5.15 and OpenWrt 21.02 and migration to 22.03 is being worked on.
“Omnia sends information about suspicious data streams to the Turris headquarters. The data recieved from thousands of routers are compared and if an attack is identified, updates are sent to all Turris devices.”
That sounds like a privacy nightmare. Anonymized or not I think most people would not like this feature.
