The I Ching is considered mysterious. Here I demonstrate a rule-based interpretation
of the I Ching that relates the 64 hexagrams (or guas) in the I Ching to the 256
transition rules of the elementary cellular automata with a possible application to
modeling the linear city. The only mysterious part is why and how the cyclic
number 142857 works in the present formulation.
Much remains to be explored.
