"In particular, teams in Google's research, Trust and Safety division among other departments have been directed to switch gears to assist in the development and launch of new AI prototypes and products"
I thought with all the reports of callous, incorrect and poor service that those areas were already being serviced by some sort of automation / AI by Google?
I really hope this is the start of the end of Google. They've been stagnant and poorly managed for years now, absent real competition, pumping out shitty chat apps and minor Android versions while spamming ads everywhere and killing off experiments. I can't remember the last time they did anything really innovative. About time a challenger came!
It's lovely to see bloated megacorps start to feel threatened by new tech when that new tech is the exact same tech the bloated megacorp should have been working on for years successfully instead of being a bloated megacorp.
Too little, too late hopefully. ChatGPT's ability to answer questions already far-exceeds the Google experience of paid-for prioritization of "facts". Hopefully Google has sold its soul to SEO so intensely that it can't recover technically.
