Ask HN: Protect against my domain registrar locking my account

For those who self host email, is there a risk of a domain registrar locking my account? If so how do I protect against this happening?

If the registrar is reputable, and you're not using the domain to do stuff that's widely illegal, and you keep paying, the risk is virtually zero IMHO. I have used many domains over many years, since before registrars were really a thing, and I am even a (tiny) registrar in one market.
