I’d love to hear more about what Google is telling people a “less secure app” is.
A less secure app is one where you have to give it your Google account username and password. This gives the app full control of your entire Google account.

This is in contrast to apps that use OAuth which never see your password and are only limited to specific permissions that you grant it.

Another Gmail account is one of those for example, according to what Google tells me when I try to use it.
