If animals are persons, should they bear criminal responsibility?
They already do. At least in the U.S. if an animal is deemed a threat to others it is put down and more often than not without any judiciary involvement. Law enforcement officers may invoke summary judgement and execution. One could argue that is more impactful and serious than the punishments to humans that are a threat to others. In addition to this if someone was harmed, the animals handler can suffer both criminal and civil legal action.
Would this creature infect or infest my wounds without remorse?
Would this creature accidentally injure others due to the perchance unsuitable environment?
Are we all ecologically dependent and interlinked?
Would this creature eat my brains, again without capacity for remorse?
Lions are shamelessly omnivorous. Do we guilt or shame the lion to change its behavior?
What's taking too much; what's taking more than an ecosystem can handle? How do ecologies recover from parasitic or just naturally exploitative species?
As it is allowed to continue scaling itself per the available environmental resources, will this species peacefully coexist?
I agree with the sentiment. I do not blame animals for being what they are hard wired to be. I blame their handlers for not being realistic about the animals they care for or in some cases do not properly care for.
If I could undo that hard wiring I would teach my deer to hunt coyotes which they are easily physically capable of when in a pack but they are hard wired to run which is a losing move. Coyotes are a threat to children and ultimately are eagle food and I want more eagles.
