Ask HN: Suggestions to find a remote entry level Embedded or firmware engineer?

I have an associates degree in digital electronics and mcu and a lot of experience making prototypes of electronics products.

I know C/C++ (mid maybe? or junior+), electronics, CAD and 3d Modeling, etc

I dont live in the US and I have many colleges that work remotely but they are software developers, I want to start working on firmware or embedded so I can work remotely.

Any suggestions would be much appriciated it

Have you checked Upwork? I’m sure you know firmware is tougher to do remotely than pure software because you generally need to ship/receive hardware and it opens the hiring company to more risk.

Could you do something low-level but doesn’t require shipping specific hardware such as codecs or drivers for common hardware? Or 3D modeling?

The inherent problem with hardware related jobs is that you require physical prototypes. It becomes frustrating to wait for days for the hardware to arrive to complete the assigned tasks. Sending hardware to remote location on every revision of the prototype becomes a bottleneck. And if you are in a country which the west think should not get new hardware, then it is impossible to work remotely for countries in the west.

It is too much of a hassle to do remote hardware projects unless you are medium to large scale contractor who manufacturers the prototypes, like the Chinese companies.
