Ask HN: Managing more efficiently at work to spend time my kids?

2 points by maCDzP ↗ HN
I am at the end of my paternal leave and I am trying to figure out a way to get full pay without working full time at my current job.

Yeah, I am a “having a cake and eating it too” kind of guy.

Anyway - I work as a project owner in the construction industry. I have pretty good computer skills - hence HN.

The job consists mainly of administrative work, spreadsheets, business analysis, stakeholder management and so on.

Does HN have any tips on how to manage more efficiently so I can save some time from work to hang out my kid? Without destroying my future career prospects.

I thought the topic was how to increase the quality of the time spent with your kids. As a recent Dad, I sometimes wonder if the time I am spending with my toddler is time well spent, and not just "babysitting."
I changed the title – hopefully it's a bit more on point.

Regarding your thought – here are my 2 cents. I have an 18 months old daughter. I share your thought. In my case the thought stems from my own boredom – it found it incredibly boring to interact with my toddler. As she is getting older if find our time together more stimulating.

But I hope that the time spent babysitting still created some sort of bond – it certainly feels that way. And I am hoping that the invested time comes with a high interest rate.

In a year's time you may be back here asking how to efficiently manage a 2 year old!
