The Poseidon torpedo is a nuclear powered, nuclear armed UAV - you can imagine it cruising around the oceans on near unlimited energy supply waiting for the order to strike at the pre-programmed target - an aircraft carrier it is trailing or a perhaps coastal city. It will either be a genuinely a new category of doomsday weapon or a white elephant, along the lines of Nazi super guns and 100T tanks.
All sides already have that capability now and have for coming up to a century now.
I can also image it wondering around the globe and mistaking a cruise ship for something and blowing it up. Much like shooting down a Korean Airlines Jet and MH17.
Or like the Ukraine shooting down Russian passenger jet flying from Israel [0]. Or like the US shooting down Iranian passenger jet and later giving medals to the crew that did it [1].

Tu-154 was shot by Russian Air Defense, but RF blamed Ukraine instead. Please, update Wikipedia with materials from multiple courts.
Gaslighting much?
No evidence was found that a Ukrainian (or another) S200 missile hit the plane.

20 years passed - no evidence found. Moreover, now we know the name of Russian officer of air defense who ordered to shut the plane, we know that he did that because transponder was turned off on the plane, because the plane was on mission to gather intel about air defense in EU, but you still insist on replaying Russian propaganda?

Ukrainian Ministry of Defense paid $15 mln to the victims, but then lawsuits followed demanding more money and the Ukraine suddenly started to deny its guilt. Classic story.
Tu-154 was hit by S300 rocket filled with TNT, not by S200 rocket filled by hexogen. Ukraine had no S300. End of story.

Yeah, it's the classic example of Russian propaganda machine: Russia blamed somebody else for their own error, then no evidence found for that blame, but it is too late to change opinion of peoples.

And why did Ukrainian MoD paid 15 million dollars to the victims' families exactly?
Because it was not clear, from the beginning, who shot the plane.
And paying millions of dollars is what people do when something is not clear.
Russia shot the plane and paid nothing, but you blame Ukraine instead because Ukraine helped.

FYI, Ukraine continues to pay money to victims of Russian attacks. This makes Ukraine responsible for Russian attacks in your eyes, right?

'because Ukraine helped'

Ukraine didn't 'help', it paid compensation to the families of Israeli and Russian passengers [0].

'Ukraine continues to pay money to victims of Russian attacks'

Who are Ukrainian citizens and the Ukraine blames Russia from the beginning. Nothing similar at all.

Ukraine did not pay $15 million to relatives of victims of the crash, because court decided that the Ukrainian rocket did not hit the plane. Final decision was in 2013.
> a genuinely new category of doomsday weapon

Doomsday, perhaps. Genuinely new, no. Several countries have had the theoretical ability to leave a nuke on the ocean floor with a timer and/or a remote control, for decades now.

More sadness. A country filled with smart hard working people crippled by leadership who's primary interest is enriching themselves and refighting WWII. What a waste.
Assuming that you believe what the Russian government says.
