Tell HN: Chat.openai.com just restored all my old conversations

While I'm under no illusion of privacy, I nevertheless found it slightly unsetteling. I am dilligently deleting every conversation I have had with the bot (mostly because I find it clutters up the UI)..

But today when I logged on, the side-bar is filled with "New chat" entries, every entry contains one of the conversations I've had, that I've deleted.

Why would you want to delete stuff from the internet? Interactions are a data point for harvesting.
So the question is, do you have something to hide? /s
As I wrote, I'm under no impression of privacy using any online service, and I don't have anything in those conversations that's sensitive (or even interesting).

However, I do find it slightly dishonest that there's a "remove" button but it does not remove anything :) So I just wanted to let people know about that.

Probably an issue with the thing they did recently.

They temporarily removed all past conversations for everyone and now restored them all.

If I recall correctly they say in their terms they keep your conversations to train/improve the A.I.

You were never deleting anything.

"Delete" should always be taken to mean "remove from this list I'm looking at right here" and never assumed to mean "actually really for real delete", unless regulations require hard deletion. (And even then, mostly it's still in a backup and will go away in 7 years or whatever dumb thing).

If you don't like this probably your only option is to never create the thing in the first place.
