Why Corporate America Still Runs on Ancient Software That Breaks (bloomberg.com)

Lol there are still IBM mainframes out there doing their job.

I can't access the article due to the paywall, but I do have a take worth sharing.

I think there's a perfect synergy between:

1. Corporates being an immensely near sighted form of human interaction,

2. Creation of massive, high-maintenance assets when relevant labor and money was cheaper,

In the two senses above, core business software is not that different from e.g. the NYC train system or indeed virtually any other utility in the US.
