Speaking only for my ageing self, whose recall benefits from such hints, it is a helpful tip that I've possibly/probably seen the material before. In that sense, it adds valuable context to the title string. To wit, compare these examples and examine your own reaction:

There is a BBC documentary series called Traumazone from 2022, which has a bunch of video from the USSR/Russia in 1985-1999, which is pretty interesting.

Growing up in the 1980s, I never really got to see a look at the life of your typical Soviet citizen just living/working.

There is deep nostalgia for the good old days in the Russian Federation.

Some pine for the USSR, some specifically for USSR during WWII and Stalin, some for the pre-revolution empire.
