Google Plus showed me a random video at the top

"What's hot on Google"

Am I missing something? Isn't this a service struggling to get off the ground? What would convince Google that I would want a video of babies roller-skating from 'funny or die' (tacky, boring, low brow, more precisely just not in my interests so get off my screen)?
