I've been following medical psilocybin for a few years now but this is the first I'm hearing about medical ecstasy, can anyone recommend any reading?
I was surprised to recently discover that Ann Arbor, MI and its surrounding county have decriminalized psilocybin mushrooms, effectively legalizing their possession and cultivation for personal use. They are not commercially legal, so I assume you can still get into legal trouble if you're bulk-growing for the purpose of dealing them.

This is pretty much the regime I'd like to see nationwide around psilocybes - I don't think "dispensary style" commercial legalization is necessary or even a good idea, but I like the idea that people can be trusted to consume / cultivate them.

I'm mildly skeptical of the recent trend of medicalization around mushrooms and other entheogens - I think they can be beneficial, but I'm not sure that handing that benefit over to the drug/pharmaceutical industry is the ideal way to get the benefits into society.

I'm even more skeptical, though that a legalization regime like what we've seen with marijuana would be a net good, so I end up really liking the middle road approach of "well, you're not going to be able to buy it in a store, but if you want to seek it out for yourself, and don't commit any other crimes in the process, have at it."

Are you joking? The transition from decriminalized to legal cannabis meant going from homemade infused butters and oils to precisely dosed edibles and tablets. The user experience is so much more consistent. The same thing would happen with psilocybin.
That's an excellent point for sure. I've always been, generally, a "legalize everything" proponent, but for something like psychedelics, I'm not so sure that the same ease of availability that we see with legal pot is the best idea. I definitely agree that what you describe would be majorly beneficial though, so I guess I need to think a little harder about where I stand on this issue.
Not to mention the lab testing. No longer do I wonder if I'm smoking mold
Isn’t it time to reassess the schedule 1 status of both of these drugs in the rest of the world? This sure sounds like “accepted medical use”.
