I’m Nicolas, the founder of Blocktool: Segment for financial data [YC W23]. We noticed in our previous jobs that finance teams lack the technical knowledge to move financial data into the company’s data warehouse and that data teams don’t have the time or the business knowledge to transform financial data.
Dealing with financial data is tricky: data reconciliation challenge (between payment, billing, CRM, accounting), 100% accuracy is needed, compliance issues to deal with, and messy data because of a lot of human inputs in the billing software or the CRM.
Instead of a Customer Data Platform, Blocktool is a Finance Data Platform. The value is to wrap up a standard tech stack in a no-code UI for non-technical finance or business analyst. We added monitoring features (think a datadog) that alerts the team of financial data discrepancies and even propose fixes that we reverse ETL to, for instance, their CRM.
How it works under the hood:
- ETL: Airbyte to extract financial data from their CRM, payment, or billing system software.
- Transformations: DBT. We built a no-code interface on top of it
- Warehouse: BigQuery. We can send the data to your warehouse or host the data if you don’t have a warehouseReverse
- ETL: Hightouch to send back some data to the CRM
The product is live, and we have customers. Feel free to try on www.blocktool.com or send it to the business ops guys next time they request engineering time for finance back office stuff!
We would love your expert opinion on this type of product and about the collaboration between the data engineering team and the finance department!
