I don't think he'll get what he wants even if he can somehow force them to write a patch, the rest of the ecosystem will ignore the fork

It's not really about that. It's getting a court to sign a paper he can use to convince people he's Satoshi.

Indeed, we're pretty sure that he knows that it can't work and for him the litigation is just about extracting more money from his sponsors (who probably don't know that it can't work) while sending a message to the public about what happens to people who don't go along with the con-- and that's a message he's been abundantly clear about.
