Octagonal like a radar reflector? You actually are expected to install this for experimental high attitude balloons over here (you can make your setup in a way that it won't actually go very far away).
I guess after not acting on the first one, they really want to show now that they can control their airspace. I think this will happen for a few weeks and then they'll go back to normal.. At least let's hope so, the alternatives are frightening..
Weird... if you combine this multiple shootdowns with things like the meteorite over france, the object near China and so on you would get a nice plot for a Stargate episode...
It had an irregular structure (Air Force described it as octagonal) and also balloon does not usually spin - especially not if they have a payload attached.
Offtopic, but will politicians ever stop using twitter for their public comments on official state business? Shouldn't the government have their own website/platform for such messages?

The tweet is a politician campaigning, so it uses their personal account and plays it up pretending to be an official source.
- Roswell was a weather balloon
- The yeti was a weather balloon
- The lockness monster was a weather balloon
I don't know why they're building the suspense up. We all all know they will after all said and done, say it was a weather balloon.
Like a crappy clickbait article on the internet, I'm expecting a big nothing-burger.
