> Aptera is making their charging port the exact same as a Tesla vehicle. Aptera is the first company to do this, and I think it's very smart.
No, it's chronically moronic. Fractured, incompatible charging infrastructure doesn't do anyone any good. Dumb, wasteful infrastructure incompatibilities continue to stunt the North American EV market.
You can fuel any brand of ICE vehicle at any brand of fuel station and you should be able to charge any brand of EV at any brand of charging station. Anything less than that is brain-dead and makes EVs worse.
If ever Aptera sells in Europe they'll be doing CCS type 2 Combo anyhow. Might as well do CCS type 1 at home.
Historically, there also were transition periods, such as the one to move to unleaded gasoline.
Because of this, I think the world could end up with multiple charging ports, too. It won’t be ideal, but once scale is reached, it probably won’t matter much.
I also guess we may end up with a special charging port charging heavy trucks.
They're differentiated by vehicle class. CCS for passenger vehicles, MCS for heavy vehicles with big batteries.
There will also be wireless charging.
Many manufacturers have signed up to these standards, even Tesla. It's time to kill off the plugs with low adoption and open all chargers to all brands.

Not quite. There’s diesel and gasoline and, within the latter, various ethanol mixtures that can be harmful to your engine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_ethanol_fuel_mixtures#U...)

It will. In most of the world it will be CCS type 2 Combo and MCS. Both communicate with the same protocol:
