Ask HN: How do I get anonymous mobile phone data for NYC?
I'm looking to do research the impact of COVID and post-COVID on NYC and believe that anonymous mobile phone data can answer all sorts of questions, including why rents skyrocketed when the city (in theory) didn't see net migration.
Specifically: - location fine-grained enough to know which borough in NYC (but finer is better of course) - anonymized unique ID - timestamp to within an hour (but finer grained is better). Ideally, SUM the number of pings for the timerange. - x% sampling might be ok, but I'd need to understand bias(es)
I'm happy to pay for the data but I'm doing this out-of-pocket for now. If interested, I'm happy to co-publish the results with you for marketing purposes: I plan to make the initial results public.
thanks!
