This is a clear trolling attempt with the title.

From the article:

> Users have the freedom of choice to get their software from other sources, including Flatpak.

And even:

> Users who have used Flatpak will not be affected on upgrade

Not to mention that the title is "Ubuntu Flavour Packaging Defaults", which is fully in line with the text, unlike the click-baity title you used (which is also against HN guidelines).

saw that on HTG earlier, too
It isn't, because you can't have FlatPak packages available to users on the same basis as snap packages. Meanwhile Canonical continues to cannibalize apt packages and replace them with snaps.
Even that does not seem to be true. Yes, they are not installable by default, but after the initial setup, you should be able to use them just like anywhere else.

In no way can anyone claim that this equates to "banning" Flatpak.

I dislike the move away from apt packages as well, but false reporting has never brought any goodwill or progress.

What part of removing Flatpak integration packages from repos is not true?

If there's any false reporting it's from that absurdly positive Register article, which simultaneously set out to say Flatpak wasn't very good anyway and couldn't be installed without a GUI.

Snaps have become a disaster because of Canonical mismanagement and now they want to lock users into using snaps.
