Ask HN: Is Adobe Podcast Audio Enhancer Currently Broken?

1 points by albert_e ↗ HN
The AI powered audio enhancer [0] seems broken for me -- tried multiple times and every time it takes a long time to process and reports an error at the end:

> The audio file is in a format we can't understand. Ensure the file is not corrupted or convert it to a standard wav or mp3 format to try again.

I used this service without issue a few days ago. Not sure what's changed now.

Yes, me too. I found this thread because I was searching on Google if anybody else was having the same problem

Yeah me too! It seems broken since morning and hope it works ASAP
I am having the same problem. I found this thread while searching on Google
I have a problem as well, just stalls out.
yes, been broken and just stalles out atm. I'm not too impressed with the outcome either... I much rather do my own audio engineering through fairlight in davinci resolve, their ai is UNBELIEVABLE!!
Can anyone recommend some alternative? Any help would be good
DeScript but I like was this AI does with audio first before I pass it through DeScript. It's a free app for transcribing. Once you upliad your audio to a new project skip the transcription option and just go to the filters on the right and add STUDIO SOUND filter. Adjust the intensity after it filters out the noise. I usually have it at 80% to 90%. 100% usually sounds too choppy and robotic.
Thanks buddy, you saved my day. Then watch my new video on the youtube channel panda artificial Today's video was only possible thanks to you haha
Yup same issue... no matter what file MP3 or WAV or files I've used with it in the past it says it can't read my file and to convert the file to a standard wav or MP3 file which I tried that too and till says the same thing.
Hey. I’m Sam, lead designer on the Adobe Podcast team. Sorry about this! The enhance speech feature is down, something happened overnight. We’re on the move for getting a fix out as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience! We’re really sorry about the inconvenience.

Do you have an estimate of when the service will return? I have Videos to post on YouTube, and I need Adobe podcast to handle the audio, this will delay my schedule
Wow didnt really expect to hear any confirmation from other users, let alone a response directly from the product team :)

Thanks for acknowledging and working on it. As a unpaid customer I can surely wait :)

Can I sneak in a couple of questions while I have your attention?

1. The upload says it only accepts MP3 and WAV -- but it seems to accept AAC as well in the past when we force it to? Also, why not support all other commonly used audio formats as well - should be (relatively) simple to add a conversion step?

2. Can we get some controls on how aggressive the noise filtering applied is? The result in some cases sounds like abrupt cuts, flubbed words, speaker suppressing a hiccup or burp etc :))

Oh and a suggestion --

If the issue we saw yesterday was due to a service being down or broken, ideally the error message displayed should say so -- so users don't assume the issue is on their side with their input file and try repeatedly and waste their own time.

EDIT:

The service now seems to be up but the AI processing is very poor. The resulting audio has so much of warbling/trembling artifacts on every syllable that it cannot be used at all. The original recording even with the noise and reverb from my room is much more listenable and understandable.

I hope you have some standard tests for your algorithm to measure teh quality of audio output for a given input clip

Thanks!

The service is back working again. Enhance away!
It also had the same error, however, last night it was working
it's not working even right now, don't know why
I see that it's down again cause it's not working
Its down here too. Times out on an upload and says it cant read file...
Is Adobe podcast broken again? I am having issues with it now
Looks like it
It's down for me too. I would love to know if there's any alternative because I've become addicted to using it.
Adobe is broken again, I think
I'm getting an error saying rate limited, please try again in 1 hour. Any fix on this soon?

is it down again? I keep getting the message "Failed to process file for enhancement." or is it because I use a VPN?
