Ask HN: 2023 Year of Linux on Phones?

8 points by ngc6677 ↗ HN
Now that we're done with the year of linux on servers, desktop and laptops, is it (should be) about time it really comes to our phones?

Postmarketos, pine64 are great examples of projects driving the community (and tech) forward.

What do you think?

In my opinion it feels it needs some money to be poured in, maybe a "big player" coming in with a "phone we can fix", and hack.

There are already the PinePhone and Librem phones for hackers.
I just put Ubuntu Touch on a Nexus 5 and it works great. Saved a phone I was about to discard.
I discovered postmarketOS relatively recently and now I want this so much. I already can't live without Termux on my phone. When I buy a new phone I'll try to port it to my current one. These mobile SoC manufacturers are probably nvidia tier though.
