Btw, does anyone have recommendations for a good rice cooker that doesn't break the bank?

A lot of people seem to swear by Zojirushi and Panasonic.

I've heard people say not all brands cook brown rice equally well though.

Article is what seems like a good introduction to a longer article, but then it doesn't go anywhere. I thought it would talk about how modern rice fancy rice cookers work. The old fashioned kind is very simple though: just a heating element, aluminum bowl, and thermostat. I'm amazed to hear they weren't around before the 1950s, if that is true.

The Atlas Obscura article it links to is a lot better: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/rice-cooker-history

I'd support changing the thread link to that. The ghost.io article is mostly drawn from it anyway. It is almost like a splog.
