It's interesting they update the software but the site looks mostly frozen in time with copyright notice, templates, and the design.
Have you tried it? Might be best to suspend judgement until you have.

Not saying I disagree with you.

I dunno about that, the stencils & templates page has screenshots of Android Ice Cream Sandwich...
Big fan of Pencil back in the day. Have donated funds to them. I moved away because I need multiplayer tools these days.
All of the adware around the page gives me a cringe feel, like trying Pencil will 100% result in malware on my system.

Wow, I not seen it as has uBlockOrigin installed.

This was a great option a few years ago, but I wouldn't recommend this. It seems stagnated, based on legacy infrastructure, doesn't really fit into modern UI usage patterns anymore, and doesn't collaborate easily.

At some point I thought they would overtake a combination of Gliffy and StarUML, but right now even draw.io is a better option.

Pencil was good but too old now.

Plasmiq opensource and Penpots are better opensource alternative

If this project is mostly JavaScript, why isn’t there a browser version?

If you try to use it as a GUI designer like Figma it's pretty outdated but I still use it for low-fidelity mockups sometimes and I like it for it's simplicity.
