Ask HN: Do you have a separate home and work desk?

I have a hybrid remote work setup where I'm in the office three days a week. It's a short drive so I don't mind the commute. At home I have one desk and one monitor used by my work laptops (yes plural) and my personal desktop. Peripherals are shared via a cheap USB 3 switch.

It makes for a messy desk. I've been thinking about splitting my work/home setup and was curious if anyone else has done the same. If so, did it work well for you? Was it worth the investment to make two working areas?

I never use my home office area for anything other than work. When I’m am not working I will throw a sheet over the desk so I can’t see it so I can use the rest of the room. It’s very important to me to have some kind of physical and visual separation between work and home. I might use the desk to do my taxes, but that’s it.
I love the dedication! But I use my personal desktop for all sorts of personal/creative pursuits as well as gaming, which makes it harder to have just eschew the desk completely. Having separate machines helps somewhat, but then if I start on one, I tend not to switch to the other when it's time to switch
