This isn't profound, and maybe crazy, but owning only one kind of sock for everyday use so there is no sorting on wash day.

For a while I didn't even roll up pairs and had a drawer with loose socks and knew that grabbing any two was good enough.

Also, when you get a hole in one, the other isn't orphaned like with unique pairs; it just goes back into the pool.

Keep some nice dress socks for days that require formal dress, but but for everything else, just one type.
