The way I see it money gives you the potential to do a lot of stuff, but having a potential to do it and actually doing it are 2 very different things.
Regardless of age, preferences that change etc. there is also neuroplasticity that does its thing and for somebody who has thought their whole life about making money then when it's time to spend it 2 big factors come in:
1) Making sure that the expense is only a negligible part of the loot
2) The need for something to be self-sustainable
People who were never as obsessive about money they can pull all stops and make big expenses even if they have much less to their name, and also have zero desire for self-sustainability which is a concept much more in line with the 'bucket list'.
People might have in their bucket list to swim with the whales or visit all National Parks. A guy obsessed with money will try and spin that into a business so the bucket list item become 'owning a whale-watching company' and 'owning a RV rent near National Parks'
