Last week I got my first ever donation (30$ of which PayPal took 2)!

Within the hour PayPal decided that I'm actually a scammer and decided to block my account forever.

No appeal possible.

There's a good reason to remove PayPal support…

Even criminals know to do test-first development of their stolen credit card numbers.
I thought PayPal's selling point is keeping one safe from shady sellers...? Personally I don't think Microsoft is gonna leak my CC details. Neither will an OSS developer run away after my donation (or if they do, it's not a huge deal).

So why don't these "sponsors" just use their Credit Card?

Credit Cards aren't really popular outside North America.
I'm honestly curious about how and where you got this impression.
Live in UK. Went to the shop and paid with three seashells and a turnip.

If you want to support FOSS developers, you should try librapay.
But liberapay uses paypal or stripe to do the actual payments.
What is the context? The tweet references “the PayPal removal” and this post remarks on “loss of PayPal support” but nothing shows up when I search. Was there a policy change or event?
