It could be that liberal ideology has a lot of emotion behind it.
This makes sense to me. If you pay a lot of attention to stories about discrimination, over time it's possible to start assuming that everything bad that happens to you is a part of that story. Basically victimisation becomes your default assumption, which is a very negative state of mind to be in.

There have been times when I could have attributed bad treatment to people being xenophobic towards me, but I try to focus on the fact that these people are possibly just jerks to everyone. I feel this is a healthier assumption as it has nothing to do with my identity.

This is not to say that discrimination of women or xenophobia doesn't exist, just that it shouldn't be the default assumption when something bad happens.

Interesting, but isn't this what multivariate regression is supposed to be used for?

The variable by variable approach lends itself well to a blog post, but I'd rather see someone do a few lines of R on the source data and read the regression summary.
