Makes sense to me. The bleeding edge research is often done in universities and research labs. But those scientists generally do not have the skillset to turn their breakthroughs into a business.
It's still a bit rare in Silicon Valley to come across a startup doing bleeding edge. Most tech startups are just digitalizing old businesses and giving it a fancy font. How many project management software startups do we need?
