I read this earlier, it's unfortunate they lead with Holmes because the article has almost nothing to do with her but is about the unfortunate way inarcerated pregnant women are treated before and after they hab their kids.
If you consider the primary goal of prison to be rehabilitation, it makes no sense to treat women with new children as described in the article. It seems like an issue that other countries (than the US) have come up with decent solution to, that should get more attention, and should be to my read bipartisan.

And it's clear that the dissuasion is not working— the US has the second largest incarcerated population in the world, second only to China (though the US rate of incarceration is significantly higher).
I would submit that the primary goal of the US prison system is to continue to operate with the most power and highest level of profit possible. To that end it seems to be performing relatively well.
I'm curious what rehabilitation looks like for Holmes? Is it just abstaining from future confidence schemes? What about SBF? Not stealing billions more?
There is no rehab for Holmes she could have easily been any other functional member of society, she’s just happened to be a scammer that got caught that needs punishment
In Holmes’ case the father is wealthy and perfectly capable of taking care of the children. Which is completely unlike the experience of poor women of color who end up in prison for minor crimes. Weird article.
We’re talking about this because she’s rich and white. If she were not there’d be no question of a convicted felon serving their prison sentence. Kids or no.
The US legal system makes me sick.

I don't claim that's a good thing, but Holmes is faced with the prison system that exists in reality, doing what it it officially intended to do.
Although, since Holmes will be in federal rather than CA prison, I don't know whether the same law applies.
